Called UHS and explained my symptoms of a 2 week persistent cough as well as vomiting and a sore throat accompanied by sore lungs. Nurse told me to drink Gatorade and get plenty of sleep. Went to the doctor and was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia. Please take calls more seriously and stop dismissing patients as if they are not felling what they think they are.

Writing to specifically shout out PA Dan Shapiro. I hadn't an annual physical in years, and he was an incredible provider. Mr. Shapiro took time to understand my total health, answer my questions, and educate me. It's one of the only medical appointments I can remember where I didn't feel like I was being rushed out of the room. I had some lab work done that was free of charge and got my results the same day with a message from Mr. Shapiro explaining them.

Have been getting the best quality of care I've ever experienced. Maybe I'm just lucky but as a person who visits the UHS more than twice in a typical month I'd say it's pretty good. The care providers are (usually) on time, the labs are super efficient, staff is friendly, and myUHS works well for me. The only negative experience I’ve ever had was a phone call with a receptionist, during which I felt my problem was downplayed and felt very disrespected, but it’s apparent that English is not her first language and there might have been some miscommunication.

UHS primary care and gynecology were always great! UHS mental health services on the other hand are terrible and they will refer you out.

I had one of the worst medical experiences with UHS. I went in for gastric issues, my symptoms were dismissed when I repeatedly told them I had a problem, and they told me to see a nutritionist instead. I had to wait a couple months to return to my hometown to get my stomach checked and after an endoscopy, it was found that I have a chronic stomach problem, which could’ve been diagnosed months earlier had they bothered listening to me, instead of dismissing my concerns. Would not recommend.

The female receptionist operating the 5th floor information desk on 2/24 at around 12.30pm-1.30pm was rude, condescending, and clearly uninterested at doing her job. I explained to her that I called an after-hours nurse at 6.00am that morning, to which she immediately cut me off and said "we don't have nurses working at 6.00am". She then proceeded to take a phone call and spoke extremely rudely to the patient who was on the other end of the line. After the call ended, I gave her my phone number at her request, and she mentioned that there were no records in her database. I repeated my phone number to her and she made a rude remark because she had misheard one of the digits.

I explained that I had spoken to multiple nurses over the phone that morning, who all said that I would receive a call back, but I did not. The receptionist mentioned that she can see that multiple calls were made to me, which I did not pick up. I then showed her my call history which showed that there were no missed calls. She then reiterated that she can see that calls were indeed made to my phone number. I had to explain that I was not trying to imply that they didn't call me back, but that there was an issue with calls getting through. She seemed to not be able to understand this.

At the end of the whole exchange, she concluded that I could not see a nurse until I picked up a call from them, and said the best she could do was to leave a note to them to call me again. Long story short, I was in the same position that I had been 15 minutes prior, except that I had wasted 15 minutes of my time with that unfruitful conversation.

Nonetheless, all the nurses who answered the UHS phone when I called were extremely helpful and understanding.

Being seen at the UHS PC urgent care was the worst experience I have ever had with a medical professional. Staff was rude and dismissive of my symptoms. Rather than addressing my health, the MD instead made an unprofessional comment that it would be best for me to eliminate stress by quitting my job and extracurriculars so that I could “relax”. The next day I got a second opinion from a different doctor/clinic outside of UHS and was confirmed to have an illness which requires medication. Being seen at UHS was a waste of time and energy, and I would not suggest it to anyone.

Maybe I've just been lucky, considering other reviews, but I have gotten the most attentive and superb healthcare as a student at UW-Madison compared to any other time in my life. The ladies in the Gynecology department make me feel in charge of my body and safe; they always make me feel like I have many options and I never feel judged even when I express nervousness or concern. Everybody is so friendly, personable, and they have a great sense of humor. The nurse practitioner I went to for primary care was very nice too and again made me feel like my healthcare decisions were MINE to make. She connected me with other healthcare providers when necessary and answered my questions completely and kindly. There was a procedure I had been putting off for a long time due to fear, but my experiences at UHS helped me to feel like I would be well taken care of and I finally went through with the procedure with little difficulty. The UHS online interface is super helpful too and I always receive prompt follow-up messages and lab results. The one thing I recommend is to make sure you arrive before your appointment because they have a fairly strict policy about being 10+ minutes late counting as a no-show.
